I'm pretty sure that SPOT would be considered an illegal device on an airliner, since it's transmits a signal. That said, if you use it on a plane, be stealthy!
I've used this on my own personal aircraft and it works great. It is, in fact, the reason I bought the unit in the first place: flight following while flying over remote areas. I make my live tracks public at http://tinyurl.com/FindMaria
