Pre-heat oven, 450. Oh wait SMS to home doesn't work yet.

Ha. I wanted that earlier this week when we picked up a take-and-bake pizza earlier this week.

thats what happened, we picked up a pizza on our way home (i called on our way and it was done when we got there) then heading home i thought if we had a smart phone synched to my windows phone i could open an app and start my oven. then i realized it would be easier and more widely adopted to sms enable an oven. GE can pay me for that idea :)

sms _is_ the perfect medium for that. keep it open and universal rather than bind up a technology like that with all sorts of proprietary interfaces that may or may not work on device X.

Great idea.

What's interesting is that this technology does exist today. I've programmed several systems in Crestron/AMX to interact with appliance's/hot tubs. Home Control is the future- its just not reasonably affordable.

I'm sure it's out there (I'm not that smart). I know the cost is in making the whole home smart. It seems to me like an earlier and less exspensive stage would be to SMS enable individual devices. But I'm no expert.
