In recent months we’ve seen people reporting the news in real-time, using Brightkite as their medium.
From the DNC and Election Day to the California and Boulder wildfires to, most recently, the USAirways crash - this type of “citizen journalism” has quickly become the way that people are receiving their headlines. MSNBC has a great article that mentions the roles Brightkite and Twitter play in this growing trend and the potential it has for the future.
With Inauguration Day just around the corner we are really looking forward to the updates from both the people who are lucky enough to attend and from those of you who will be watching around the world.
Keep tabs on the activity in the DC area on the Washington D.C. Wall .
Discover what people are saying from around the world on the Inauguration Day Wall .
So, sit back and enjoy as you watch this historic event unfold in real-time from the perspective of your fellow Brightkiters.

Wow, you guys have some impressive citizen coverage. Hopefully no incredibly noteworthy news breaks out during the inauguration though, via BrightKite or otherwise...

I really tried to post stuff, but it seems for me it was a hopeless cause. I think the number of people trying to use their phones and data mobile data on their phones was so large that the cells around the Mall were overwhelmed. Had to do everything with my regular digital camera.

This is great stuff, but I have a question (I tried your feedback thing, but it's not working so well...). Can you add an option to only post stories to FB if I Check In publicly? I hate how my FB page has all these posts that say "Andrew checked in @ Aurora" and the same map is there all the time too.
Another option would be to use the place where I place snapped as the @ Place. Loopt does this. So you can check in @ Home.
Anyway, keep up the great work!

Andrew, one quick way to get it to do what you want is to set "everyone else" to hidden when you are in private mode. Then whenever you post publicly it will show on FB, but in private mode your activity will be hidden from sharing.

I thought the inauguration was fantastic. I was surfing the web and came across KOMO 4 Reporter Shomari Stone's touching report. He reported on the historic day and explained what affect it had on his 5 year old son.
Here is the link I saw.
