May 12th, 2010
We are very excited to announce the launch of a new brand partnership with Starbucks. We’ve been working with both Starbucks and their agencies over the past few months to pull together some really innovative locally targeted and time sensitive brand integrations with Brightkite.
We can’t tell you everything we are going to be doing yet, but there are some cool things that you are going to see starting to roll out from today…
The first thing you’ll notice is integration around the Frappuccino® happy hour (3-5pm May 7 th to 16 th ). Check-in or post at any Starbucks during happy hour and not only do you get a half-priced Frappuccino® (available to everyone!), but you also unlock some cool features & rewards like the ability to browse and pick your own favorite Frappuccino® drink and corresponding badge. Once you’ve picked your favorite Frappuccino®, you add it as a badge on your Brightkite profile for all your friends to see. All of this is done right within the Brightkite iPhone app and these features are only available if you are checked in at a Starbucks, or during happy hour.
We love the idea that Brightkite can help brands build relationships with consumers in a way that is relevant and positive for both you the Brightkite user and for the brand. Starbucks has approximately 11,000 stores in the US and each has its own unique neighborhood community of customers. We are delighted they have chosen to work with us to strengthen these communities and to provide both real world and virtual rewards for loyal customers. We are already working on programs for other Starbucks brands (in addition to Frappuccino®) that we’ll share with you soon.
As always we’d love to hear what you think and how we can make these brand programs better. In the meantime, please support Starbucks and our other sponsors who allow us to make Brightkite a free service for everyone.

Thanks for the comments. We love canada! Actually, you can get the deal in Starbucks stores in both the US and Canada and you can even pick your badge in the great white north as long as you're on an iPhone.

So, got any innovative plans that don't involve a shameless but inferior imitation of Foursquare?

You say "these features are only available if you are checked in at a Starbucks, or during happy hour". Does this mean that you can only see any Frappucino badges while checked in at a Starbucks or during the Frappucino happy hours wherever you happen to be? Or, put another way, does this mean that you cannot see Frappucino badges outside of Starbucks [check-ins] except during the Frappucino happy hours?
