In the words of Benjamin Franklin “Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both”. Benjamin Franklin was one of our founding fathers that fought for our freedom , he was apart of the Declaration Of Independence and invented many things that America uses today and would be nothing without it . Most importantly Benjamin Franklin believed in rights and liberty and those who would give up their liberty for security doesn’t deserve either.

For example :”You’re a traitor !’ yelled the boy .”You’re a thought- criminal ! I’ll shoot you, I’ll vaporize you, I’ll send you to the salt mine!”.(Orwell 23) This example shows that even adults children are apart of the Thought Police , adults fear their own children ; nobody is safe when it comes to their own thoughts. Winston disagreed with the ways of Big Brother but he knew that he would be killed if he expressed his opinion , so he started writing in a diary . Winston knew it was very risky but he didn’t really care , he cared about what the future would hold and what they needed to know .” To the future or the past, to a time when thought I’d free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone - to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude , from the age of Big Brother , from the age of doublethink - greetings.!
Winston dislikes The Party and Big Brother so much that he rebels to test their limits and power . Winston believes that what The Party and as well as Big Brother is doing is to keep utter control and power , to show who rules the people of Oceania the members individuality and their freedom are stripped from them permanently . Winston feels as if he must rebel as a way for
things to seem real for him. Winston struggles throughout the novel mainly because of paranoia . Paranoid that The Party and the Thought Police will eventually catch him and kill him for committing as many crimes as he did . For example “:" They'll shoot me I dont care they'll shoot me in the back of the neck I don’t care down with Big Brother they always shoot you in the back of the neck I don’t care down with Big Brother( Orwell 19). Winston rebels by writing in his diary which is known as a Thought Crime , which is why he is paranoid due to the fear of being caught and killed for it .When Winston writes in his diary he feels alive, he feels that sense of rebellion .
