Management theories are realised to help increase organisational productivity and service quality, create the successful business model. The theories have divided into scientific and classical management theories.
Classical Management Fayolism Theory
The first of the management theory is the classical management, known as Fayolism, as developed in 1900s by Henri Fayol. It focussed on efficiency through management training and behavioural characteristics. Moreover, the theory of management that investigated and combined the role of management in organisations. Likewise, the classical management theory concerned with the management, human and behavioural factors in management. The theory, focusing on managerial practice organisations that could reduce misunderstandings and increase efficiency too. Fayolism has developed 14 main principles of management that help managers manage their undertakings more effectively, for instance, the division of work, delegation of authority, discipline, chain of commands, congenital workplace, team spirit and etc. The main advantages of Fayolism are: the better motivation (improves motivation and morale of employees), improve communication (information and ideas could be passed upward and downward). However, it could be diffused responsibility and takes longer to make proper decisions. For instance, Tesco offers the training and development programmes that will develop the employee’s technical or professional skills (leadership, negotiation and presentation), also core company skills (personal effectiveness, communication and time management). Also, Tesco says that the best lesson, the valuable training is when someone is working in the actual business area (in store, office or distribution centre).
Scientific Management Taylorism theory
The second is the scientific management (Taylorism), was popular between 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing industries and developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor. It is focused on improving efficiency (productivity) and outputs (finished product) through scientific studies of worker processes. The scientific management in determining the amount of time it takes workers to complete a specific task and identify ways to decrease this amount of time by eliminating any potential waste in the worker process.
