Do not judge a book by its cover. This is a common saying that most readers do anyway even though they do not admit it. Some covers have changed over time. So does the packaging of a book make the reader want to read it more? Movie book covers are giving some books a second light.
At the age of twenty-eight Nicholas Sparks just finished writing his third book. So in October of 1996 is when he finished his story of entitled The Notebook. Warner Brothers publishing company decided to fulfill Sparks dream of becoming a published author and made The Notebook the first piece of writing he had published. In an interview he mentioned time after time that he was glad it was not until this book when he was published because he said he did not think the first two were worthy of publication, they were just used as confidence boosters proving he loved to write.
Nicholas Sparks is a unique and very talented author. He has a special talent that when he writes he writes his stories they are very realistic and even life like. The amount of details and images make the book come to life. It even makes the reader use their imagination. The all the imagery it is hard not to imagine being one of the characters in the book. Even though Sparks is known for his romance and love stories the majority of his books suffer through some sort of downfall or tragedy.
“All of his books have been New York Times bestsellers, with over 89 million copies in print worldwide, in over 50 languages, including over 50 million copies in the United States alone, and his popularity continues to soar.” (Sparks). This statistic is impressive thinking how he started just writing for fun the became published a year or so after he wrote his first novel. In fact The Notebook made the Best Sellers list in October 27, 1996.
The majority of his stories and novels are inspired off his real life, people, and experiences that took place in his life. His story was based off his wife’s grandparents. Many of his novels have also made their way into the movie industry. In 2004, Nicholas Sparks’ first published book, The Notebook was transformed into a movie. Luckily he is another that does not get caught up in the movie industry. He stated that, “I enjoy, and have always enjoyed, reading, and my ability to write and interest in a writing career grew out of that. While I generally try to avoid clichés, the following is apt: I don’t live to write, I write to live.” This is a quote most writers should take in an account instead of always helping the movie industries and making their book what not what they deserve it to be. He also mentioned that he is not involved a whole lot with the movie making process, but is always happy with the end results. This makes me think of the Adrian Johns article, is the purpose of his book really getting across in the movie versions of his book or not.
After the movie was released it had some happy and unhappy viewers and readers. How the movie...
