A career is defined as the, "progress through life, especially in work, or an occupation with opportunities for promotion." (Oxford Pocket School Dictionary) One's vocational path is an important part in an individual's life. A career is much like a marriage. In a marriage there are two partners that must work together in order to ensure success. The same can be said of a career. Like in the dating process, the applicant must also dazzle the employers with empty promises and answers that make them seem perfect for the job ('my weakness is that I'm a perfectionist'). When the job has been offered, there is a contract signed that states what the company is required to do and likewise of the employee; a contract that can only be broken by a good litigation lawyer.Once a couple is married, they go on what is known as the 'honeymoon phase' where they are deeply in love and married life is new and exciting to them. Monotony has not yet set in. During the honeymoon phase, life is fun. Usually the couple has recently returned from a trip that followed their wedding. The couple is now refreshed and ready to spend eternity together. After about a year, the honeymoon starts to fade and everything becomes routine. Over time the couple will face hardship, and they have to work to ensure they stay together. Eventually, the couple will invite new things into their marriage, such as children or a pet. These additions can throw the marriage off balance, but the couple must work to keep a healthy relationship. And of course, marriage does not come without compromise. Two people cannot live together without compromise.
