The purpose of this paper is to gather all the strategies needed to be the best I can be in the future, as a professional. I will express all of my personal goals that I will strive to achieve during college. This paper will serve as a road map to my career path, and will help me better understand the job market. Currently my major is in the college of Kinesiology. The reason I have chosen kinesiology is because I am fascinated with the human body, and learning how to take care of it while it is in motion. This assignment calls for me to explore my options in this degree field by taking a career and personality assessment. Then, I will decide on a career, and major choice that interests me most. At this moment I will put forth all of my effort to obtain a degree from Sam Houston State University, and move onto becoming what employers are looking for. The reason that I fell in love with Kinesiology was the broad career options. If I want I could work alongside children, or take my education a set further and become an Occupational Therapist. Since childhood I have known that I wanted to help people with their physical being. So naturally, it has leaded me to explore the medical field, and participate in clinical rotations. I was able to distinguish that my love would gear more toward helping the elderly restore their mobility in their day to day lives. I have chosen Kinesiology because it will give me the foundation of how the body moves, that way I can take that knowledge to Occupational Therapy school.
The purpose of my major is to obtain a bachelor’s degree, so that I can apply for a master’s program at an Occupational Therapy school. That I am interested in three main occupations. One is to be an Occupational Therapist, which help you achieve physical independence after an injury, so you can return to work or sports. Another career is to be a Physical Therapist. Their job is to help guide patients achieve physical hurtles after going through a stroke, or accident. Lastly, I am interested in being a nurse practitioner. A NP can do everything a doctor can do such as prescribe, treat, and help patients and they work underneath a doctor.
There are three levels of becoming an Occupational therapist. Entry level is becoming an aide, which just helps the assistants and the therapists with whatever they need. They make anywhere from 25,300-38,600 within a year. To be an aide you need to have an associate’s degree. The Mid-level career is and Occupational therapist assistant, which perform most of the hands on therapy for the patients. Their income is anywhere from 63,700- 88,300 within a year.
