Have you ever made eye contact with someone and thought it meant the world to the both of you? He or she must be really interested in you right. Next you begin to plan your wedding, the dream house to live in and the names of your unborn children together. When does it to go from a cute crush to infatuation and delusions of grandeur. Throughout this paper I will explore the diagnosis of delusional disorder and treatment options.

People with the persecutory type believe that they (or someone close to them) are being mistreated, or that someone is spying on them or planning to harm them (WebMD). These people may even make multiple complaints to the authorities in order to save their loved ones. The somatic subtype of delusional disorder is where someone believes they have some type of physical defect or medical problem. People with the mixed type of delusional disorder a mix of the previous types of delusions mentioned above. Treatment of Delusional disorder is a culmination of anti-psychotics and psychotherapy. The atypical treatment is neuroleptics which block dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain. Psychotherapy is beneficial in helping the person recognize and correct the underlying thinking that has become distorted. Cognitive-behavioral therapy help the person’s ability to recognize and change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to troublesome feelings (WebMD).
