Pro-life vs. pro-choice can often be a complicated and confusing one. Those who are against abortion often believe life begins at conception and base their opinion on Biblical views. Those that are advocates of pro-choice believe it is a women’s right to end a pregnancy regardless of the woman‘s reasons. In the United States, the pro-choice view is perceived as pro-abortion, and the pro-life position is recognized as anti-abortion. Should women have the right to choose to have an abortion in today’s society?
People often use the topic of abortion because they are issues for young women. “Among many younger feminists, the matter of abortion rights is looked upon as part of a ‘reproductive justice’ that includes access to birth-control and improving health care for the poor and minority women.” (Fouhy N.P. 1) Even though abortion is a choice sometimes it’s not an option due to multiple circumstances such as financial reasons, age, and parental consent. The legalization of RU-486 allows women the opportunity to make a choice regarding having an abortion. This drug has given women a new way to keep abortion a personal and private event. The pill and water has made the word “choice” a meaningful definition. (Quindlen 60) Women should have the right to decide whether having an abortion is a feasible choice. The government should not have the legal right to dictate what a woman can do to her body. It is her body so the choice should be hers after
considering the effects and consequences. In 1973, Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court ruling shifted the political issue into a personal decision for women facing unplanned pregnancies. (Fouhy N.P.2) The Roe vs. Wade ruling opened the door for women about
having an abortion to make their own decision without fearing the effects of having an
illegal abortion. A women’s body is her domain, so let her decision be made by herself
after considering all the factors. “Pro-choice” is a women’s right to believe and control
decisions: having unlimited freedom regarding her life, body, and reproductive
People that believe life begins at conception are called “pro-life” advocates and
believe abortion is a murderous act and should not be legal. Many anti-abortionists use
the bible to support their views, and believe that a fetus can feel pain at the moment of
conception, thus making them human and abortion immoral. (Balch 6) In Exodus it states “Thy shall not kill”, abortion eliminates a child’s life. Of course, everyone’s...
