How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? Imagine not having any say in whether or not you want to have a life. Well babies have no choice when they’re in their mother’s womb. If a woman aborts their baby, the baby has no choice but to go with it. Their whole future is demolished. I believe abortion is wrong when committing it for a selfish reason.
An abortion is, the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely allowed by the death of the embryo or fetus or the expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy. Abortions have always been and will probably always be a controversial topic in which everyone will not agree on. In the midst of the controversy, two groups have emerged. These groups are referred to as pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life supports claim that life begins right at conception therefore, abortion at any stage in the pregnancy is murder. They believe that life is valuable and the life of the unborn baby has the same right as a mother. Pro-choice supporters on the other hand, claim that is the woman’s right to choose what she does with her own body.
Abortions have been around for thousands of years. In the eighteen hundreds abortions in the United States became illegal, due to lack of medical education procedures and surgeries which make abortions very dangerous. As medical enhancements were being made, women had to rely on back alley abortions which the association stated that abortions were wrong and unsafe. Therefore, according to the National Abortion Federation, abortions were then made into a “physician’s only” practice because they could be performed legally in order to save the women’s life. It was not till 1973 that abortions were made legal in the United States. “American’s right to privacy included the right of a woman to decide whether to have children, and the right of a woman and her doctor to make that decision without state interference.” Abortions are one hundred percent legal and cannot be denied to any adult woman, and that is where I believe the state is wrong.
Many pro-life advocates support the mandatory ultrasound required prior to obtaining an abortion. By doing that it would provide a way for the mother to form a connection with her unborn child by actually seeing it and hearing its heart beat (Rowan, 2013). There are many different procedures for how old the baby is in the womb. But no matter what age the baby is, murder is pain.
In Laci Peterson’s case her husband murdered her and at that time she was pregnant. He was the charged with a double murder, receiving back-to-back life sentences (“Laci Peterson case;” 2007).
