Without a doubt, there have been great presidents throughout American history. The subject of the matter is debatable about who has done the best job for the position. When you ask Americans who the greatest president ever to serve is, five names would be repetitive: Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is more than likely always at the top of the list. He is commonly known as the best president of the United States and I can't help but agree. President Lincoln has had numerous achievements, such as ending slavery, modernizing the economy, and preserving the Union.
Lincoln is famously known for ending slavery. He Issued the Emancipation of Proclamation. The presidential proclamation was issued during the American Civil War. Lincoln stated in his speech, "I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of ...view middle of the document...
It wasn't ratified by the states until 1866, one year after it was passed. We have Lincoln to thank for their freedom, who knows how much longer they would have been enslaved if he hadn't done fought for them?
Not only did he free the slaves, Lincoln also modernized the economy! How did he accomplish this? He signed the Abolition of Slavery. Yes, by signing the bill that he worked on, he helped modernize our economy. He also signed Pacific Road Acts, which helped both the economy and transpiration. This act helped the construction of a railroad and telegraph from the Missouri River to the Pacific ocean and it secured by the government the uses of the postal, military, and other purposes. The railroad expansion provided new avenues, sold portions of land to arriving settlers, and because of the farmers and ranchers, the lands closest to the tracks drew the highest profit.
As Lincoln was freeing slaves and modernizing our economy, he was persevering our union as well. Yes, by doing these things, he preserved our union. He fought hard until the end of his life, keeping the United States as one. He delivered the Gettysburg Address during the American Civil War. It is known as one of the greatest speeches in American History. The speech was to honor the brave soldiers who fought in the battles. He also stresses on the importance of liberty, freedom and equality. He believed that everyone had a part to play and only when they realize that part, the nation will be strong.
Lincoln has accomplished an ample amount during his presidency and throughout his life. Not only was he a strong leader, he was a strong person overall. He fought for the rights that shouldn't have had to be fought for, because they were deserved from the very start. He modernized our economy, which isn't a very easy thing to do and takes a great deal of hard work. Most importantly, he preserved the union! Lincoln was a very hard working man and his named should always be known, through generation to generation. His story should be told and he should be looked up to as a role model for each and every president. Lincoln once said, "Whatever you are, be a good one," and he most certainly was.
