1) Self Regulation
No matter what business venture you start, your business setup will be in imminent danger of collapse if you lack self-regulation. In affiliate marketing industry, you will not have a boss, there will be no one to give you notes and point you in the right direction. You will be your own boss. All of the work and management has to be done by you. In the absence of such a regulatory authority, many new affiliates lose focus of their goal. Remember all of the discipline and motivation has to come from within you; no one is going to knock on your door or put files on your desk. You must maintain a schedule, divide your goal in to sub goals, achieve them on a daily basis and do a review of your work yourself.
In order to build a huge audience base, many new affiliates resort to methods considered unethical or illegal. Spamming is one of them. In an online survey it was found that a majority of internet users held negative views about affiliate marketers because of their regular spamming aimed at promoting their endorsed products. Such practices are definitely going to get you a negative publicity. It’s in your best favor to stick to the affiliate marketing basics than to bank on spamming. Pay attention to your merchant-affiliate contract, many merchants have now included guidelines in their contracts to prohibit affiliates from spamming. You can very well lose your contract if you resort to such practices.
3) Search engine abuse
Since the late 90s, search engines have become more advanced and preferred option for finding information. Majority of internet users rely on search engines to get the exact information they want. Keeping this in mind, many affiliate marketers have shifted from sending spam e-mails to abusing search engine vulnerabilities. Search engines are abused when affiliate marketers create WebPages that are generated automatically based on the keyword or search query of the user.
