Agriculture is a very important part of human life. There are a lot of important things that connect to agriculture, Chemistry is one of them. With the use of chemistry people have been able to be more productive in agriculture. Everything from what we eat to what we wear to some degree has been perfected or enhanced though the use of chemistry in agriculture. Chemistry is used to prepare the soil, fertilize the plant, protect it and even distrbute it.

This is where chemistry also comes in handy in agriculture; certain chemicals are put in the plants we eat to protect them from the little bugs. Insecticides such as DDT, BHC, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and furodan are used for the protection of crops, and for the elimination of these insects that are grown in these crops. They also help to safely store these products. These types of chemicals and methods are really helpful to farmers because it helps the production rate. Much of these chemicals are washed before the vegetables or fruits hit the market.
Even after the plant is harvested chemistry still continues to be used. During it’s transportation to the different stores the plants, fruits and vegetables still need to be protected. There are many different kinds of chemicals that are put into the products to kill all the bugs. Without these chemicals all the product that is shipped out to the markets would be rotten and full of bugs. In many cases chemicals are even added just to preserve the product even longer, giving it enough time to reach the market and remain there until it is purchased. Other wise nobody would want to buy these products and these stores would go out of business. Agriculture has a major economic impact.
Agriculture has also become a bit more conservative with the use of chemicals and organic agriculture has become an option. Many people believe that the term “organic” means that the products grown do not contain fertilizers or pesticides that are very often not the case. Usually the difference would be that the chemicals are naturally derived and not synthetic.( ) In any case the use of chemistry is still needed. Organic products tend to be more expensive. The market is really difficult at times especially when the economy is horrible; I beleive that the non-organic farms sell more of their product than the organic farms because synthetic is the thing now a days and I also think that they sell their product faster due to the economy.
