The terrorist attacks of September 11th caused many changes in our country. Although there were many after effects of the September 11th attacks, the airline industry was most impaired. This paper will explain two factors related to the airline industry that were most affected, the American people and the economy.
People had many different reactions to the attacks on September 11th. Some people became more fearful and scared to fly. The airline industry was affected because people were canceling their flights. “Immediately after the attacks, domestic air flights were stopped immediately for several days, for fear of further attacks” (9/11 Effects in the USA, Soong). Understandably, people thought another attack could happen at anytime. “Air volume dropped precipitously, as business and citizens curtailed traveling” (9/11 Effects in the USA, Soong). People tried to stay away from airlines by choosing other means of transportation. The airline security became stricter due to the attacks. They set new rules and regulations in order for people to be able to fly: examples were no liquids, taking off their shoes during check in, no scissors, pocket knives, or nail clippers, and only one piece of carry-on per person.

The economy was also affected negatively because it disrupted the circulation of money. People were spending less and this was causing businesses to suffer. “But companies are finding less expensive ways to conduct business. More employees are driving for short trips, or they're teleconferencing” (Airlines Don’t See Relief Over Horizon, Huettel).
