Throughout history, many civilizations are born and then fall prey of misfortune andcease to exist. Such kingdoms even existed in current time, for example, the Russianroyalty family1. An example of a man that managed at a young age to defy all odds ofmisfortune and then to become the greatest leader of all time would be Alexandria IIIPhilippi Macedonia. Also known as, Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great,(356-323BC), king of Macedonia, was born in Pella and was the son of Philip II andOlympias. Aristotle was Alexander's teacher and helped make him a man of science, artand philosophy with made Alexander distinct, especially since not many men of his timeconsidered art and philosophy a true leader's trait.2 Ironically, these traits made him sucha great leader. On the surface, Alexander the Great appears to be similar to many moderngenerals and military leaders. Hitler and Norman Scharttzcopf could all be consideredmilitary geniuses on the same level of Alexander the Great. Other than the fact that theywere military geniuses, no more similarities exist. Hitler and Scharttzcopf were racist anduncivilized with those that did not share the same point of views. As a result they werefeared by the people that they conquered.3 The opposite was true about Alexander theGreat. Alexander was conquering for self glory and to unify the east. Those that heconquered were pleased with his rule and phosphord under it.4 More over, at a young age he was an achiever, he conquered territories at anbreathe taking speed, established an empire that has yet to meet its comparison and diedyoung, at his height of power5. An example of how current society still relies on Alexander's teaching would behis military tactics that have just currently been used in the Gulf War6 by AmericanGeneral William Pagonis on the those same sands of Arabia that Alexander had crossedsome 2,500 years back7. Even in his time, his war technique were very successful. Forexample, when Alexander personally led his men deeper into Asia, they met their greatestmatch. An army of over 200,000 Persian soldiers, some of the soldiers were on elephantsand some rod war horses8. At that time, Alexander's army was on was about 47,000men.9 Still, using war techniques that the world had never seen, Alexander's armymanaged to fight the Persians and took control of the giant Persian Empire.10 It is alsobecause of these techniques that his military had never lost a battle11. Furthermore, Alexander showed characteristics that shaped the way military dealwith the public. For instance, when his military had captured Persia, Alexander foundhimself with the King's mother, wife and children at his mercy. Instead of slaying them,he actually ordered his men to treat them as royalty and not to let any harm fall onthem12. This can be linked to modern occupation's such as America's occupation in Iraq.Instead of capturing any relative of Sudan...
