"Let It Pour" Case Study Analysis

Chris Smith is the new Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer at Faith Hospital. He is on cloud nine because of his new job, he was just engaged to be married, he is buying a home and within days he will be a college graduate. Chris feels that he is on the top of the world and nothing can bring him down. However, Chris is sadly mistaken and after a meeting with his new boss, he is going to find that he is going to have to get his head out of the clouds in order to complete his first assignment. In his first meeting with his new boss Chris finds that there are many problems at Faith Hospital that need some serious evaluation and correction. Pat, Chris's new boss explains to him that in two weeks Pat will hold an all staff meeting to explain the current issues in the hospital and to propose solutions on how the issues can be resolved. In order for Pat to hold this meeting and be able to discuss issues and solutions in an informed manner, he assigned Chris the task of coming up with a preliminary report that will form the basis for the meeting.From the meeting with Pat, Chris could see that there were a growing number of problems within the organization, it appeared that everyone in the organization had lost site off the company's vision, and were following their own interpretations of it. In order to understand this statement one must know how the Faith Hospital Mission statement reads, it is as follows:With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of service provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values. (n.d., p. 2)Although this mission statement appears to be very clear and precise, Faith Hospital is facing these problems; the employees are not following rules or standards set by the hospital, the increased cost of running the hospital and a drop in the number of patients, and the there are issues involved with working with the managed care insurance companies. Each of these issues will need to be thoroughly evaluated in order to provide the very best solution for Faith Community Hospital.Description of ProblemsThe first area of concern for Pat and Chris, is that the employees of the hospital appear to be following there own set of rules for patient care. They are not following Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) directions; this is causing some agencies to threaten charges against the hospital because of alleged errors. Some employees are providing care without payment, while others are refusing service to patients because they do not have insurance coverage. The refusal of service goes directly against the idea that the hospital is a non-profit organization. These actions by the employees go against the foundation of the mission statement; in addition it shows that the employees have decided to use their own views of ethics and morality when it comes to...
