In the world today, alternative energy source which is an alternative to fossil fuel and nuclear energy is becoming more and more of a necessity. Right now, the world’s population growth has caused an increase in the energy demand. Rosenberg (2009) pointed out that the world’s current growth rate is about 1.14%, representing a doubling time of 61 years. OECD's International Energy Agency[IEA] (2014) found that from 2011 to 2035 the world energy demand is likely to rise by more than two-thirds. Though there have been challenges in the deployment of these new technologies, but incentives exist to utilize renewable energy. These include solar energy, wind energy, and biomass energy sources. ...view middle of the document...
Kenya is a country that lack of natural resources such as petroleum ,fossil fuels and natural gases .To fulfill the demand of energy, they have to rely on the import of the energy sources from the other country .Before developing of solar energy sources in Kenya, some of the remote area hardly get electrical supply as it is too expensive to extend the electricity power grid .According to Kammen (2004) ,solar electricity in Kenya is sometimes used for income and work related activities . All of these will contribute to small gains in economic productivity. Besides ,solar electrification also useful for the social activities and entertainment activities.
With the help of solar inverters, direct current(DC) in the solar panels can be converted into alternating current(AC) that can be used by the plugs in the home just like traditional electricity. In AC power, the current changes direction over time and can easily change to a high voltage level which allow long distance transmission. Some common products like television and computer use DC power and AC power is converted back to DC by the power supply on the electronics whereas some can run on either DC or AC power. Typical inverters are only 95% efficient so there is 5% loss of electricity when DC is converted to AC.
Wind energy produces energy and electricity by using turbines when moved by the wind. Wind energy is famous among the countries such as Denmark , Netherland and United States. . The environmental issues that accompany urbanization , and the oil shock that comes with the economic development are problems share by entire world. According to Goldstein (2011), the average capacity of installed wind turbines has increased by 145% since 1998-1999, with the average capacity of turbines installed in the U.S. in 2009 at about 1.74 MW. It show that wind energy is gaining emphasized by most of the country.
As a renewable energy sources, wind can produced continuously and it available in plenty. It is the form of energy that will exist till the time sun exists. Wind energy development is very promising and not only protect the environment, but also be economically effective relative to other renewable sources. Wind energy does not produce greenhouse gases like fossil fuels product .It also can help to reduce the global warning problem that occurs throughout the world.
Besides ,wind energy also can help to reduce the fossil fuel consumption. If wind energy can be adopted on much wider scale by other countries across the global, dependence on the fossil fuels can be decreased to much extent. It could be answer to the ever increasing demand for petroleum and gas . Wind turbines do not require any fossil fuels to generate any sort of electricity. It fully relies on the wind. Compare to some other traditional power station that rely on the non-renewable sources such as coal ,natural gas and wood, wind energy is more environmental friendly instead.
Wind turbines can be found in the area...
