Alternative Fuel Essay

766 words - 4 pages

Hydroelectricity is a well known, highly used resource used to power many objects and materials around the world. The way this method works is that the electricity is made through water power, the water is stored in dams. Water then goes through large pipes that goes through a machine that is like a wheel that flows water into this wheel. A mechanical energy is produced in this process that is then gone through electrical energy.
A source of alternative fuel for hydroelectricity is geothermal energy that is energy used from the heat that is in the interior of the Earth. This source of energy is a clean source that does not need to be saved because it is renewable so we don’t need to worry about using too much but enough of this energy. Geothermal energy can be used through a geothermal system that is need of heat , water and permeability where it’s a material that lets heat, water and other sources to come through. Through a system like this a geothermal reservoir forms where the heat is trapped through a rock or just the Earth’s crust that surrounds the source that provides heat such as lava. The rock or Earth’s crust acts like the permeable material that is able to trap steam or hot water being able to form hot springs and geysers. All of this has to be dug through because the reservoirs are usually found deep underground through cracks so one must drill through the surface. Geothermal energy can be used as electricity by drilling a well into a reservoir where the heat from the hot water can be turned to electricity that is done at a geothermal power plant. It can also be used as source as heat for houses like a Jacuzzi also industrial industries this is can be powered through a heat pump. The reason for this being such a clean source of energy is because it is able to be used without the burning of fossil fuels that also releases little carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.
Although the alternative fuel geothermal energy is a good alternate fuel for the traditional hydroelectricity they also have their own advantages and disadvantages. Through hydroelectricity a dam must be constructed and...
