Did you know that you can receive a maximum of a $7,500 tax credit for just owning an electric or hybrid vehicle? The United States government values citizens that buy fuel efficient vehicles because it gets the United States one step closer to not buying outsourced oil (Jones par.14). Hybrid vehicles are vehicles that are mostly powered by gasoline, but switch over to electric at stop signs or at coasting speeds. Electric cars are cars that are solely powered by electric from start up to shut down (Motavalli par. 6). Most cars and trucks on the road today are powered by gasoline or diesel engines, which are expensive to operate, bad for the environment, and use resources that are non renewable. To achieve better fuel economy, lower operation cost, reduce the pollution on the environment, and operate vehicles with renewable resources, this world needs to take a better look at using alternative fuels to power vehicles. Alternative fuels for motor vehicles are better for the environment, are renewable resource, and are cheaper for consumers.
The first reason alternative fuels should be used is to better the environment. One way of bettering the environment and finding a fuel that would no longer depend on outsourced oil and other fossil fuels would be to create a man made fuel that would power many different vehicles. Another way to better the environment would be to introduce a fuel that vehicles could use that would have less pollution or no pollution and would not harm the environment.
First of all there is one well known way of making a man made oil which eventually becomes gasoline or diesel fuel, that has been around for a long time, it is called bio fuel. Bio fuel is a fuel that is made from plants or other growing vegetation such as corn. Making a fuel from plants such as corn and grass would help the environment by using growing resources and not tapping into oil wells creating environmental issues such as leaking oil into the oceans (Avril par. 1,2,3,7).
Many fossil fuels that are used today, when burned, produce a hydrocarbon gas called carbon dioxide, which is the most abundant of the man-made greenhouse gases and makes petroleum based fuels the primary source of climate change (Heywood par. 3). In 2010, it was calculated that twenty-seven point nine percent of all United States gas emissions were due to transportation (Gas Emissions 1). While the government continues to set new standards for emissions, the number of vehicles on the road continues to grow increasing congestion and pollution (Walsh par. 23).
As we all know pollution plays a big role in today's world, and how it effects the environment. If there was a fuel that could be made or used that reduced the pollution or had no pollution on the environment, that could power everyday vehicles, it would be amazing. CNG or compressed natural gas is a fuel that can be used to power vehicles that has reduced pollution compared to gasoline or diesel fueled engines...
