“Attention, earth monkeys!” echoes a thunderous noise from the shadowed skies. Up above the earth, one hundred stories high hovered a platoon of extraterrestrial machinery. The mimicry of the English dialect boomed again, “We have decided to declare after watching your barbaric athleticism to eradicate the sport of your choosing: baseball or football. Permanently! With good grace, we have also decided to spare you from any recollection about either sport. You have one hour to give us your answer.” dragged the voice for what seemed like an eternity.
Fights, panicked civilians, and crying children all feared the unthinkable: Football or baseball? Gone forever?! How could the American civilization survive such an outcome? But I knew the answer, it had to be baseball. It’s because there is so much more to baseball than what can come from football. Baseball allows all to be heroes, consists of team spirit and is inspirational to all. This spirit needs to carry on, for the overthrow of the diabolical tyranny.
Unlike football, the heroic spirit of baseball doesn’t rely in your strength or athleticism. Instead, the heroic spirit of baseball can be carried by almost anyone, on any given day. Baseball is a celebrated heritage that occurs without bias in both boys and girls while football, is typically considered, too “rough”. It also isn’t usually played by guys until they’re in their late years of middle school or early years of high school. A nonbiased sport, I thought to myself, would be a perfect sport.
To add on to the courageous souls of those who play baseball is the fact that money is typically not an issue. I thought about the year of 2013 and the match between the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees. These teams, despite their significant payroll differences were able to compete with one another. Tampa Bay had a payroll of 62 million, while the Yankees had a payroll of 228 million. The Rays had a .564 winning percentage and the Yankees had a .525 winning percentage. This...
