“As of September 10th, 2013 4.1% of Americans receive some type of welfare.” (US Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Commerce, CATO Institute.) The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation did a study in 2007 and they found out that 20 percent of people using TANF (Temporary Assistance For Needy Families) were discovered to be using illegal drugs. That is a big percentage of people receiving money from us taxpayers that should be used to help them to survive everyday but instead they are using it to get their fix on drugs. I think that we should drug test any american twice a month who chooses to receive welfare so we know they are not taking drugs. This will eliminate any problems with people using welfare money for things other than their necessities.
The main reason why i think Americans that receive welfare should be drug tested is because taxpayers who have to work every day and have to earn their money should know what their money is being used for. As Americans we should have the right to know if the taxes we pay to the government that when it goes to welfare recipients that they are using it for necessities and not drugs. The result of drug testing the people receiving welfare will limit people from taking drugs. It will also help them get cleaned up and back to a drug free human because they will need to big drug free to receive the welfare
money. In the end it inform the taxpayers that their money is helping other americans and is bringing this country together as one.
Another reason why i think Americans receiving some form of welfare should be drug tested is because it's not fair for the people who don’t take drugs aren’t able to receive it because someone else that is using the money for drugs is receiving welfare money. Some people are forced to go on welfare because either they got laid off or can’t find a job at all. These people are forced to receive welfare because they have no income coming in. Most of the people who need it either can’t receive it or are receiving hardly any because of the amount of people receiving it use it for drugs. In Tallahassee, Tennessee about 2% of all the people getting some type of welfare tested positive for drugs. (Whittenburg, Catherine. "Welfare Drug-testing Yields 2% Positive Results.") If we were to have drug tests the people who actually need to receive welfare can get it and have a reasonable amount.
Lastly people who get hired for jobs are most of the time required...
