An In Depth Look At Painting Essay

1017 words - 4 pages

This painting was taken to reflect the battle of Arab horsemen. The artist was less interested in portraying a pictured corresponding to visual reality than in addressing artistic, compositional, and formal concerns. The advanced complex of the figures and horses together in combat and the sheer delight in the skill of handling paint are the focus of the work. The artist's focus on a moment of intense emotion rather than descriptive narrative action makes the work a noteworthy expression of romantic sensibility. Despite the work's purely artistic concerns, the subject matter was to inform the viewer how brutally it was during the colonial conquest and occupational reflecting the often-bloody scene. Art painting to me is about expression, feeling, and everyone has their own technique and style. This kind of art reveals the feeling of the artist that he would only put it in painting through the elements in that artist and the work are one. That is what makes it moving, you feel the artist through the work, like he just finished painting it yesterday. Art painting is most definitely subjective, connecting with the piece most often than not as in deeply personal matter; however, personal reactions do not make anything better or anything worse. Moreover, there are pieces of painting that are quite popular but are not great works of Art. I think most of us know instinctively knowledge what is good. Again, it does not have to appeal to our personal tastes for us to know it is good.
Moreover, as we consider unity depicted relating to the designed elements to the idea being expressed in a painting, reinforces the principal of unity. Elements should be integrated so that the picture has an overall unity, with nothing left singled out or out of account. Painting with an active aggressive subject would work better with a dominant slanting direction, course, rough texture, and angular lines. The colors are dull and monochrome shades of tan and brown. Differences in tone color, shapes, create visual interest, and this variety strengthens a painting if not pushed too far. Artists use color, line, and shading to imply textures. In this painting, the men's robe is painted to imitate silk. Dull colors have been diluted by mixing with other colors and create a composed or serious mood. In this image the artist captured the seriousness of the scene with the...
