What do women do when their menstrual cycle is unexpectedly late? Do they make a doctor’s appointment or disregard it? Making minor decisions such as “What music you chose to listen today?” or “What dress to wear to a dinner?” becomes second nature. However, choosing whether to keep or abort your unborn child is a much difficult decision. While abortion deprives the child of experiencing life for themselves, others proclaim it depends on the mothers’ predicaments. Christians, Politics, Physicians, and Educators have publically debated this issue. And yet overall are neither right nor wrong. In this particular article titled “Abortion’s side effect and consequences” author Sabrina Mcclanathan discussed two sides of this issue. She displayed profound information on abortion, organizations and two types’ of abortions by stating facts, statics, and personal surveys.
Mcclanathan begins her article with a neutral thesis by stating, “Making the decision to terminate a pregnancy is often difficult, educating yourself about the possible consequences and side effects will help…” (Mcclanathan 1). Her thesis further explains the “right choice for you” and by “you” Mcclananthan is referring to expected mothers’. She doesn’t support abortion nor is she against it and as stated in her thesis, Mcclanathan wants to educate women about their decisions.
Following Mcclanathan’s thesis, she sinks in discussing arguments that others argue. While displaying her facts to defend her counterargument, she describes two types of abortion; medical and surgical. Mcclanathan states “For the sake of simplicity this article will discuss the side effects of a surgical abortion”. “Although the emotional side effects are generally the same for both.” (Mcclanathan 1). As Mcclanathan begins to describe the details of the physical consequences, she basically explains the danger of a surgical procedure. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthetic for the patient; the body becomes numb and unconscious. This particular procedure reduces any feelings or pain the patient may feel. Mcclanathan explains “Following an abortion, you can expect your menstrual cycle to resume within 4-6 weeks; it’s possible to become pregnant within this time period.” (Mcclanathan 1). These may possibly be normal side effects of any female procedure, but the article goes into farther details of these may not be healthy.
Women undermine future life disadvantages they may encounter with having a surgical abortion. Mcclanathan says “However, it is essential that you understand and recognize them so that you are educated about the possible consequences and can take the appropriate actions, scarring of the uterine lining, perforation of the uterus, heavy or persistent bleeding, infection or sepsis, damage to the cervix, damage to other organs, reduced fertility, and increased risk of breast cancer”. (Mcclanathan 2). Psychological consequences can be equally affected on your body as well as the...
