It is also important to know that the SB5 has been shown to be beneficial when considering measuring whether a labeled gifted participant is highly gifted or in the lower range of the gifted spectrum (Minton & Pratt, 2006). Often times, with assessments other than the SB5, the ceiling may be too low and cannot fully assess the levels of giftedness in individuals (Williams, McIntosh, Dixon, Newton, & Youman, 2010). This often leads many highly gifted students to be rated at the same level as other participants whom they are in reality higher in ability than. The SB5 may also be a better alternative to using the WISC-IV or WAIS-IV because of the difficulty in assessing the specific age ranges of 6 years-7 years and 3 months and 16 years-16 years and 11 months (Wilson & Gilmore, 2012). This difficulty is due to the trouble with choosing a specific test for these specific age ranges because of their differences in ceilings in assessments other than the SB5 (Wilson & Gilmore, 2012). The SB5 has also been shown to be beneficial to all ranges of age due to its structure which allows for the assessment of all five factors of intellectual ability. The structure allows for the assessment of individuals performance verbal and nonverbal in specific areas which make the results more individualistic and precise in comparison to other assessments (Wilson & Gilmore, 2012). The SB5, as previously mentioned, measures individuals from 2-85 years in age which makes it possible to test such young children and older individuals by use of the same test and provide “age-equivalent scores” (Minton & Pratt, 2006).
When looking past just the results of the FSIQ, of the SB5, there are also strengths seen in the specifics such as the ABIQ. Previous information has yielded that the FSIQ yields more pertinent information than the ABIQ, but that in no way means the ABIQ isn’t in itself at all useful. The FSIQ takes both more money and more time to administer than the ABIQ. Why spend so much money and time on every participant when the ABIQ allows for administrators to see whom needs further assessing in the first place? Research gathered from 2008, concerning gifted students, yielded that the ABIQ of the SB5 is useful in screening whether participants should have further testing concerning their abilities (McIntosh, Dixon, Williams, & Youman, 2008). The ABIQ of the SB5 is also considered to be one of the more useful ABIQs of assessment tools due to the fact, that unlike many other ABIQs of psychological tests, it was developed by use of a specific theoretical model (CHC Model) allotting it to be more structured and similar to its FSIQ (McIntosh et al., 2008).
