Owning a dog or a cat can be loving relationship with memories, pictures, and a friend that will never leave. Sadly some pets don’t get to have a happy ending like this. Pepper is a one year old cocker spaniel who I recently adopted but not from a shelter. She was my cousin’s and he was someone who didn’t give any love to her or even feed every day. He let her in the garage for one whole year by herself. When I heard of this I gave him a call and told him that I would give him $100 and come pick her up myself. He agreed in a heartbeat. The community/neighborhoods can also help with finding go homes for pets. These people would know more about a person than anyone else. Community involvement can help the shelters and breeds because they are all in the same town or city. With the communities help they could find good homes and also can help with fundraiser or adoption days. Fundraisers could include getting shelter pets their vaccines or donate food to them or even help the shelter for a day. The community has more power to make a bigger impact on stopping animal abuse and neglect.
Background checks and the community can really help but to truly make a difference the states and the government need to help. The states could strengthen laws to where people are responsible enough; they can have more pets than the law says. For example, Nebraska has a three pet limit in the city of Omaha, but some people would love to have more and could take care of them so why have this law.
