Animal Cruelty This Case Is Against The Abuse Of Animals

1749 words - 7 pages

Think about the products used every morning. The soap or toothpaste that is used could have been tested on animals causing pain, suffering, and possibly death. Now this doesn't mean that people shouldn't wash themselves or brush their teeth! There are many products which are not tested on animals. Personally I love animals and I don't know how anyone their right mind could consciously take part in killing one or even observe the pain that helpless animals have to go through. Testing on animals is not the only way that products and drugs can be tested. Animal testing has been unreliable in the past and has lead to human consequences from inaccurate vaccines, cures, medicines and predictions which left many humans to suffer from critical illness and deathThere have been many different kinds of cruel animal testing performed over the years. The most unnecessary types of animal testing is using animals for testing cosmetics and different products. Although it is very possible to produce cosmetics without testing on animals, some companies continue to do so.There are different test used on animals when developing products, two test being the eye irritancy test and the Ld-50. The first test contains liquid or granule flake that is exposed onto the surface of an animal's eye. The animal of choice for this experiment is the albino rabbit for its sensitive eyes. The rabbit is immobilized in a stock to prevent escaping the test. The test is in intervals of 72 hours, with test lasting many days or weeks. "Usually it results in destroying the eye entirely, or the animal breaking its own neck to survive." The other immoral and cruel experiment to animals is the acute toxicity test. The toxicity test involves forcing a tube down an animal's stomach or down holes cut into the throat. This widely used test is called the LD 50 test which determines a lethal dose of poison an animal can take before it dies. This test proceeds until fifty percent of the animals are deceased. Harming an animal is unethical and immoral when other safe means of testing can be performed.A nonhuman primate shares ninety-nine percent of human DNA. Scientist rely on information based on nonhuman primate's test. The track record testing on animals to humans has had many consequences from flawed data. Nonhuman primates' tests are not reliable for many reasons, mostly because animals and humans are very different. Animals and humans biologically differ from each other. Results from animal's tests can't show exactly what will happen to humans. According to Animal Aid, there is of evidence that has been found that shows how chemicals frequently have completely different effects in animals and humans. Some examples, one time a pain killer called Opren killed 61 people in Britain and caused serious illness to 3,500 others, even after it was declared safe after seven years of animal testing. ( Another example is Strychnine and belladonna (drugs) is harmless to...
