If you had the choice to live or die, which would you choose? If you had the alternative to live in a cage or in a house which would you select? If you had the option to have experiments that caused you pain preformed on you would you? The truth is that most of us would rather live, reside in a house and would not be a part of an experiment that caused us pain. However, most people accept the elements of the above conditions for animals. Animals should not be a part of the pain and horrific conditions that humans put them through. We shouldn’t just let these innocent animals suffer and die to save human lives, when we could find other ways to treat diseases.
Of course animal testing has contributed towards many life-saving cures and treatments. The California Biomedical Research Association states “nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.” The polio vaccine, tested on animals, reduced the global outbreak of the disease from 350,000 cases in 1988 to 406 cases in 2013. Animal research has also contributed to major advances in treating conditions such as breast cancer, leukemia, malaria, and many others.
The problem with testing drugs on animal is millions of animals die in research laboratories at the hands of scientists who perform outdated and inaccurate tests that prove no benefit to humans or animals. Before the animals die, they are routinely burned, poisoned, starved, addicted to drugs, pretty much driven insane. They are deliberately inflicted with diseases such as cancer, diabetes, syphilis, herpes, and AIDS. Their eyes are surgically removed, their brains and spinal cords damaged, and their bones broken. Law does not mandate the usage of anesthesia. The US Department of Agriculture reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments because they weren’t given anesthesia for relief. Despite all of this cruelty, not a single disease has been cured through vivisection. Vivisection is the medical term for the practice of experimenting on animals. The centers for disease control say that most of the common diseases killing Americans are preventable just by changing their diet and lifestyle. Drug testing on animals is inaccurate and does not benefit humans or animals at all. Some animals that vivisection is used on include; dogs, cats, mice, rats, rhesus monkeys, owls, deer and sheep.
Animal testing is cruel and inaccurate. Morphine causes cats to be hyper but has a calming effect in humans. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are sometimes force fed, or deprived of food and water, inflicted with burns and other wounds to study the healing process, inflicted with pain to study its effects and cures, and killed by neck-breaking, decapitation, or other means. The Draize eye test, used by cosmetics companies to evaluate irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being incapacitated in...
