What is an animal tested product? Is it a medicine? Or is it a cosmetic? Some people might think animal tested products as complicated stuffs. In fact, animal tested products are easily found around our lives. As animal testing is available in many uses, it has a long history and has been controversial for many years. Those who insist on abolition of experiments for animals argue that alternatives for animal testing exist. In addition, the protesters think that human’s anatomy and that of an animal are very different. Therefore, they argue that applying test results from animal testing is meaningless. Also they say that animal testing must be abolished because of ethical issues. Those who are against animal testing cite it as a cruel and immoral practice. They believe animal testing is not different from animal abuse. However there are reasons why humankind cannot stop testing animals. Animal testing is inevitable for three reasons: provision of essential data, contribution to humanity and guarantee of animal rights.
To begin with, animal testing deducts vital data that cannot be drawn from human testing.Scientific developments related to human ethics are accomplishedby animal testing.Ethics of human are so important that science has a limitation line drawn by them. For instance, cloning is banned due to human ethics. Therefore, scientists conducted cloning experiments on animals. In 1996, Ian Wilmut succeeded in cloning sheep, known as Dolly by using somatic cell. After in 2005, based on Wilmut’s success, Woo-suk Hwang brought the first cloned dog Snuppy into the world. Data of cloning animals are so important because some animals, like dogs, have similar gene structure to human. By cloning experiments on animals, now humankind blazed the way for curing Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. Without practicing animal testing, mankind could not have gainvital data about cloning and medical science could not have developed. Testing with subdivided types of laboratory animal finds data those aresimilar to human body system. Some protesters argue that testing animal is not effective and meaningful because animal’s anatomy is not same as human’s anatomy. However it is not true. Animal testing is conducted with various kinds of animals which areclassified into types of studies to make the test condition maximally similar to human body’s condition.According to United Kingdom’s research of laboratory animals, in 2005rabbits are tested for skin and eyes, mice for vertebrates because they are easy to handle. Fish are tested for studying disease processes because they are transparent. In addition, deer and dogs are tested for cardio circulatory studies.Fast speed of animal’s growth and breeding helps decrease of experiment period. Some tests need data that are related to growth or birth, but too much time is needed for human to grow and to breed. Data that demand long period experiment like these can be easily obtained by testing animals. For example,...
