Animals Essay

937 words - 4 pages

Animals are held accountable for experiencing pain for humans to get the best out of products. People believe in order to advance products, animals must undergo rigorous procedures. Animals endure pain, grieve from loneliness, and yearn to walk freely. Instead, all they can do is involuntary sit in fear and wait patiently for the next terrifying, painful operation that will be performed on them. Most of the time, the results are not accurate since humans and animals differ greatly. Considering limitation factors, I believe human products should be tested on for our safety but without having to harm animals. Animal testing used to aid human development should be decreased to a minimum to avoid undergoing careless, horrifying procedures.
Humans violate animals’ rights when doing research by giving them no choice but to participate. Animals, like humans, feel, think, and experience pain so they should be approached with the same consideration as humans. While animals are never given the choice of not engaging in the experiments, they are exposed to painful tests that often cause permanent damage, sometimes death. To test the safety of new chemicals, products, and cosmetics, animals are poisoned and killed by being forced to intake harmful substances. Each year approximately 3 million animals are used in experiments in British laboratories (Animal Aid). This amount does not include animals that have been purposely bred to be used in experiments or the animals turned down for not being adequate. If these animals were also included in the annual statistics, the number of animals used in experiments would increase by millions. These innocent creatures have to suffer for the benefits of humans.
Animal testing has assisted in the improvement of the duration and the condition of our lives. The most important benefit to humans from animal testing is the medical advancements. There are individuals who are against animal testing for cosmetics but will support animal testing for the improvement of human health, such as medicine and the development of new drugs for disease (Murnaghan). A great aspect animal testing provides is the safety of drugs and other substances that humans utilize. This allows the risk for harm exposed to humans to be lowered and the lives of individuals to be kept from hazardous substances. Animals also benefit from the results of animal testing. If vaccines were never tested on animals, they would not be protected from rabies, parvovirus, hepatitis, heartworms, etc. The outcome on animal research is not always an advantage, while humans are being cured, animals are getting killed.
Animal testing includes disadvantages that make it a wrong choice and takes a considerable toll on an animal’s life. Millions of animals are killed after they are experimented on and some will live the rest of their lives with the negative effects experiments has caused them. One of the many unfortunate aspects...
