Application: Leadership Styles And Patterns Essay

Leadership skills and styles are essential to any career profession and especially in the human services field as it relates to things flowing effectively both internally and externally. According some researchers it is said that leadership skills are determined from a person’s personality traits. Whereas, others may say that becoming a leader is a growing process that is affected by the events and/or issues that may surround them. However, while studying human service and community service organizations we were able to determine their leadership styles based off the information we know about a particular organization by using the Leadership Matrix.

However, it is when the internal and external factors come in that makes the two a slight different. Therefore a task-oriented internal leader is focused more on things internally and not really seeking outside resources. Some other examples of the task oriented leadership is the construction of all the rules and decisions for the organization as well as enforcing them. Whereas on the hand, the task-orientated external leaders do not mind seeking outside resources while remaining focused on the overall goal and mission of the organization. When it comes to how the operation of Brantwood comes into play I can see the use of the task oriented internal leadership style. But when it comes to the accomplishments of the mission and providing resources I can see Brantwood using the task-orientated external leadership style.
Similar to the task oriented leadership styles the people-oriented internal leadership and the people-orientated external leadership style are both different but yet similar. The similarity of the two is that they are both more focused on the training and education of the people either within and/or affected by the organization. However, with the internal spectrum of the two, emphasis is placed on the morale of the employees as well as making sure that they are properly trained for the job as it relates to changes that may have an impact on the organization’s mission and purpose.
