The question all parents have been chattering about, are vaccinations safe for their children? A vaccine is an injection of a killed or weakened infectious organism in order to prevent a disease. The injection works to stimulate the body's immune system so it can be recognized as foreign, then be destroyed, and "remembered" , so that the antibodies in the immune system can easily recognize and destroy any microorganisms that it later comes across. An antibody is a protein found in the blood. It is produced in response to foreign substances like viruses or bacteria, invading the body. Again, laboratory proof of immunity is also acceptable. Birth before 1980 in U.S. is acceptable for college students, except health science students. MMR requires 1 dose for child care attendance and preschool entry. For kindergarten-grade 3, grades 7-10, college freshmen-seniors and mostly all health science students, 2 doses are required. Laboratory proof of immunity is once again acceptable. For college students,birth before 1957 in the U.S. is also acceptable, except for health science students, . There are also several other diseases in the state that require vaccination. All in all, I am in favor for parents to vaccinating their children before kindergarten.

I understand why parents are against vaccinating their children. Any vaccine can cause side effects. However, For the most part these are minor and go away within a few days. For example, usually they would include a sore arm or low-grade fever. Also vaccines are continually monitored for safety. The decision not to immunize a child a puts them at risk and could put the child and others who come in contact with him or her at risk of being infected with a potentially deadly disease.
There are an abundance of reasons why vaccinations are necessary for children. Immunization protects others you care about. For example, Children in the U.S. still recieve vaccine-preventable diseases. In fact, scientists have seen resurgences of measles and pertussis over the past years. In 2010 the U.S. had over 21,000 cases of pertussis reported and 26 deaths, mostly children that are younger than 6 months.
