Introduction of French courses at MSB
SMU or MSB is a Tunisian school of business that receives students from all around the word, and particularly French-speaking student. The Tunisian education system is actually based on French contrary to MSB, which is an English system. It will be profitable for MSB to offer French courses. However, it is beneficial to students as they are aiming international exchanges and dealing with diversity on campus.
First, French is ranked in the second place after English as the most spoken language internationally and the most widely learned foreign language (La liste de George Weber classant les 10 langues les plus influents) & (consulfrance-houston).
We can conclude that it is as important as English in the world of business and will be helpful for students to develop business skills in French. It will open them doors world widely considering that French is used in particularly all continents (Europe, north and south America, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Australasia). However, the French-speaking population is going bigger with 220 million persons in 2010 and have a percentage of 5% compared to English that have 8% of the world population and in 2050 according to a study of the banque Natixis, English will decrease to 5% besides French will rise to 8%. Second, almost all MSB students are French-speaking; we can describe their level as excellent. Moreover, we can assume that the majority will have grades above average, as they are familiar with the language, they will be comfortable with it and find it easier than other materials, and so percentage of success will certainly be high. Also, it will help keep in memory French notion and the correct grammatical structure of the language, as they are no more treating with it in the official courses.
Third, foreign students, will acquire new knowledge, new experience, they will discover the French language and its cultural wealth. Indeed, no one can deny the historical and richness of the French culture, it is the language of cooking (la fameuse cuisine Française) fashion, theatre, arts, dance, legendary music like Edith Piaf, and the great literature: victor Hugo, jean Paul Sartre, Molière, etc.
For English speakers, French is the easiest language to learn (WILE, business insider), since fifty per cent of current English vocabulary is derived from French (consulfrance-houston), “ The list of English words with French roots is basically infinite”. Also, it will facilitate communication with people who speak it and better know each other. The openness to others helps get further ways of looking at things and develop tolerance and acceptance of different kind of people. It develops critical thinking and discussions skills.
