Is higher education necessary to succeed in life? The answer is: Probably Yes. As Hsun stated “Learning, nothing is more profitable than to associate with those who are learned.” (Hsun Tzun 550) Higher Education gives the people the necessary knowledge that is require to live a more successful life.” Learning should not be ceased” (Hsun Tzun 546) meaning that learning should be the first priority of everyone. College education is the key to success. It helps people to open many doors of opportunity and allows people to open new paths for the future. The government responded with an “unprecedented 700 billion bank bailout and 787 billion fiscal stimulus package.”(State Higher Education Finance 2010) Due to the economic downturns in 2007-2009 “CSUs received $ 813 million less in 2008-2009, the UCs received $ 625 million, and the CCCs $ 812 million less. “ (Newell 2009) In response, higher education’s tuitions increase from 9 percent to 12 percent. “CSUs increase 12 percent, UCs increase 9.6 percent, and CCCs increase from $ 26 a unit to $ 36 a unit.”(Johnson 2010)
Budged Cuts affect students in many ways. Students are more in more debt because they received less support from the government. “The average loan debt carried by a graduating senior nationwide was approximately $ 23,000, double what it was in the middle 1990S.”(McClanaham 2011) Private loans are the first students’ choice to pay tuition fees. These private loans charge interest as high as “$ 18 percent, more than double in volume between 2003 and 2007”(MacClanahan 2011) due to the economy downturn in 2007.Students have to work full time and study at the same time. They are getting low grades because their mind is somewhere else. College students receive “more than three quarters around 76 percent of all institutional merit based scholarship and grant funding” (Miller 2011) so that that why students have to find other ways to get the money to pay their education. The scholarship program “provides about $1.6 billion a year in aid to 394,000 Californians, including 33,000 private college students.”(Ry Rivard 2014)

Higher education should do a better job of preparing students for the future. Students are having a hard time finding a job after they graduate. As Martha C. White stated that “College can’t do math today.”(1) Students should be prepare in any field. Higher institutions need to start working more with the STEM program. This program is designed to prepare students with skills need it any field. More importantly, employers say “applicants have lack “communication and interpersonal skills.”(White 2) . Dewey’s stated that:
“And skill obtained apart from thinking is not connected with any sense of the purposes for which it is to be used. It consequently leaves a man at the mercy of his routine habits and the authoritative control of others, who known what they are about and who are not especially scrupulous as their means of achievement. “(559).
Once knowledge is obtained, you will have achievement. Meaning that you are fully having success and achievement. Another skill that students are missing is the ability to communicate and use the English say a lot things about the applicants. Susanne K. Langer stated that:
