Outlined within the very first chapter of Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle is his view on what happiness is as, the means by which it is acquired, but does his reasoning determined as true? Whether his view is true or not depends on the definition and support he has given as well as the reasonability towards people in a general form. For this we look to Aristotle’s view of ‘good’ and ‘the highest good’ which he associates to the various pieces to create ‘happiness’ or ‘living well’. Does this make the connections, variations, and overall generic definitions by Aristotle make his understanding true or false?

Mental or physical gain, personal growth, and scholarly achievement could be an example of the third. It would require a form of balance established to create or come to ‘the highest good’ or from Plato the ‘median’ of the soul or being.
From the book we gather that ‘happiness’ is connected in various amounts to achievement, recognition, gain, and pleasure. Finding that ‘median’ mixture for the general or generic person being the ‘good’ goal or aim leading to ‘highest good’ and placing a person in what would be ‘happiness’ or considered as ‘living well’. The following passage from the text defines ‘the highest good’.

“Now, if there exists an end in the realm of action which we desire for its own sake, an end which determines all our other desires; if, in other words, we do not make all our choices for the sake of something else-for in this way the process will go on indefinitely so that our desire would be futile and pointless-then obviously this end will be the good, that is, the highest good.”
