Assignment #3: Research Plan
The research question that is to be answered by Bus Pass/Gas Card Program evaluations is whether or not the bus passes was used properly and effectively. Did the bus passes/gas cards eliminate patients canceling their appointments and or having less no shows? The evaluation will show whether or not the program met the needs to the patients and Mercy Health Physician Partners. The purpose of the evaluation is to see whether or not the program was successful, and or if the program needed to fix any holes that it might have. The following are specific research questions that will be used to show the effectiveness of the program:
a. Do 80% of the patients make their appointments on time after being enrolled into the program?
b. Did the program help improve the patients health status, and or mental health status?
c. Did the participant’s in the program have 40% higher self-esteem after the program than they had before the program?
d. Did the participants of the program improve other aspects of their life because they were able to get around due to have a bus pass/gas card?
e. Did the participants stay out of the Emergency Department for non-life threatening injuries?
f. Were the participants able to receive their prescriptions on time?
Quasi-experiments have been used as far back as the 18th century and continue to be frequently utilized by researchers today for three primary reasons: (1) to meet the practical requirements of funding, school administrators, and ethics, (2) to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention when the intervention has been implemented by educators prior to the evaluation procedure having been considered and (3) when researchers want to dedicate greater resources to issues of external and construct validity (Shadish, Cook, & Campbell, 2002).
The one-group posttest-only design will be used to test the effectiveness of the bus pass/gas card program. The posttest will be given to the participants the last month of the program. The posttest will be in a form of multiple choice and short answers to determine if the program was effective. During the 11th month into the program the new employee will hand out the posttest during the last handouts of the bus pass/gas cards. If anyone had dropped out of the program early they would be mailed a posttest with an envelope that can be returned to the office. The date will be collected and imputed into a spreadsheet by the new employee (program director).
The diagram of the design is:
The targeted population for the bus pass/gas card program is families and individual living in poverty, that can’t afford to make their doctor appointments/counseling appointments. The pupose of this program is also to make sure the patients do not go to the Emergency Department with non-life threating concerns. The employee that does the sliding fee scale application will sample the targeted populations...
