The anthropological model is seen in everyday life and is how society is built. The model has 12 different parts that put all together you have the society we live in. Each part very different but when thinking about it they all are important. I got to understand the model in a better way because of the book, “Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bronx is Burning” and the documentary, “New York”. They had many good example of each subset, and used baseball and New York to explain which made it even easier to understand.

What is moral or immoral, also explaining events that seem like they shouldn’t ever happen. The stories we have all heard as kids about Bigfoot or Johnny Appleseed are under the subset of “Myth”. They show a way to idolize a person or add excitement to everyday life especially when talking about history from ancient civilizations. “Rituals” show the symbolic way to represent big parts of life or even just what you do every day. Having rituals is to show checkmarks you want to reach in life and celebrating it. Lastly, there is “Play” which shows the part of life that is about having fun and reliving any stress that built up during everyday life. It is what most people do to ground them and survive; a select group gets to do it as a job. The Anthropological Model shows us the part of life, the little things that make us who we are all the way to linages in families or the creation of something bigger.
When I was reading the book I noticed a lot of the stories related to the subsets. The first subset I noticed was “Government” when the book talked about Abraham Beame. Beame was the mayor of New York City, a position of power. To show his power he decided to clean up the streets around Madison Square Garden for the Democratic National Convention. The jail cells have never been fuller but there was no more prostitutes on the streets the big convention. This leads us to the next subset used in the book, “Economics”. Beame put the city in a bad financial situation by instead of firing thousands of employees he moved their pay to a different funding area. This provided the necessitates of life for the workers who still were making money instead of being unemployed. But it did the opposite for the citizens of New York City because they were running out of money without knowing it. In the baseball chapters in the book the linguistics used show how in baseball they use slang to describe things. A good example of this is on page 19, “So during batting practice he put on wool warm-up jacket and instructed the pitcher to throw him a bog full of ‘bowties’...” (Mahler) We all know what a bowtie is and not many would describe it as a baseball pitch that was down that middle of the strike zone for an easy hit. Another very good example is on page 55 in a dialogue between George...
