Mr. Tim is a 52-years-old, Caucasian male, married, born in LaSalle, IL. He lives in an apartment since April 2013 with his wife and son. His family supports his efforts with everything. His present source of income is SSDI. He drove trucks for thirty years and is interested in becoming a dispatcher for trucking company. He is not going to school at present but would be interested in going to school to become a youth counselor.

The dispatcher job does not require too much moving around and would be good in case of his mobility limitations Mr. Tim knows very little typing and would need some training in how to type using speech to text software. He would also need training in how to use Microsoft Word and Calendar for scheduling appointments. His limitations are his low vision and Parkinson disease. He has only drove for thirty years and has no experience in any other field and he does not know what he might be able to do as a profession because of his mobility limitation and vision loss. He still has good use of hands but that will change in the future. His Parkinson’s is progressing and it may get worse. He also does not have any college education which could be considered limitation because it is very hard to find employment without good education.
Previous assistive Technology Tried:
Mr. Tim had enough vision that he used Zoomtext for a couple of years. He used 5x magnification level with Zoomtext and mostly depended on mouse to perform all the necessary tasks on the computer. Slowly his vision started to deteriorate and he could not use the computer at all with Zoomtext. His rehabilitation counselor referred him to Center for Sight & Hearing for technology assessment and training. He had his assessment in 2011. A desktop computer with Zoomtext, JAWS, Talking Typer, Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7 were used to assess his technology skills.
