People gravitate to beautiful things, especially those that are visually so. Why do you think beauty products such as facial cleansers (, toners, and moisturisers are so in demand? It's because people love beautiful things. Case in point, when people are asked about prospective partners, a criteria that involves a pleasant physical appearance would always be somewhere on top of the list. It doesn't matter whether you ask a man or a woman. Everybody prefers to be with beautiful people, if they could. The same rule applies in the professional world.

In the world of work, success doesn't just involve working hard at your tasks. It also means looking the part, especially if you get to deal with people on a daily basis. For instance, if you're a team leader or an executive, it would be understood that you look presentable and formal every day that you report to the office. That is just part of the job. Why? Well, it's simple really. The fact that you're part of the company means you automatically represent the company to the business world at large. More to the point, the saying "guilty by association" applies here. So if you look good and presentable and get good feedback from it, the company you belong to gets the same feedback. You may think the assessment trivial and petty but in the world of business people often judge organisations and other professionals through these shallow observations. Attractiveness is obviously a heavy factor ( and first impressions are pretty important. Admittedly, this doesn't happen all the time, but most of the time it does.

As a matter of fact, a study that was conducted a few years ago suggest that companies are more likely to hire well-dressed and good-looking people than those who are not. This is especially true for people working in the service and hospitality industry. What are the advantages of beautiful people over those who are not? Well, according to the study, the following are just some of the hard truths about beauty in the professional world:

Beautiful people give the impression that they are nice and pleasant.
Attractive people have at least a 3% higher chance of landing a job.
Good-looking people look and act with more self-confidence than most.
Attractiveness is about as important as a university degree.
Interviewers favour attractive applicants during job interviews.
