Benghazi Essay

652 words - 3 pages

In his "Benghazification Begins" (2013), Paul Krugman argues that the crisis of Healthcare.gov is over and the Republicans will fail at attempting to exploit the early mishaps of the website which will ultimately make the Republicans appear to be the villains of American politics once again. Krugman at first concedes the website has some issues, he admits "Yes, the website isn't Amazon." yet he argues that Healthcare.gov serves the purpose of "giving money, namely subsidized insurance"; the website does not have a commercial purpose like Amazon, therefore the comparing of the two by the Republicans is invalid, as well as Krugman looks to the future and foretells what might happen if the Republicans attempt to pursue the inefficiencies of the website as a criminal charge: they will have public hearings, a 60 minutes piece, yet all of this will be futile because the American public will see that universal health care is working despite their attempts to stop it. Krugman shows that the website is indeed fixed and should not be compared to a commercial website like Amazon in order to show that the Republican party's claims are erroneous and to paint them as the petty younger sibling of American politics: the petty child who cannot handle the success of another sibling and therefore in any way possible must malign the success of the other sibling. Krugman's audience seems to be one that is wary of the problems of Obamacare, Krugman starts the article with "At long last, the problems with Healthcare.gov are over", indicating Krugman wanted to put an end to a long period of worrying for his readers, in addition Krugman seems to write to an audience that is predominantly liberal yet may be shifting to the Republican party because of healthcare, Krugman writes, "I assure you my left-leaning faithful who may have strayed a bit to the right, the democrats will emerge victorious in...
