Various provocative questions need discussion that what are the attractive differences between both the fuels? Why fossil fuel dependence is to be actually minimized? There are two foremost competitors for energy resources in this world. Archaeologically, Fossil fuels are the remains of prehistoric plants and animals deep inside the earth and are the derivative of hydrocarbons, which is composed of hydrogen and carbon molecules. These exist in the form of coal, oil and natural gas. Another leading contender is bio-fuel, which is the fuel that is obtained from biological sources such as agricultural crops, including corns, soy; algae and biological wastes. Mainly it contains biodiesel, ethanol and butanol.
Ever since, fossil fuels are an overriding source for energy to drive regular tasks and operations. The expansion in human activity most significantly the burning of fossil fuel to meet the energy demands emits tons of carbon dioxide gas in the air, which is one of the largest greenhouse gases. They form a blanket that bundles up the heat in our atmosphere and warm the planet contributing to global warming and air pollution. Due to which, earth's average temperature has risen by 1.4°F over the past years, and is anticipated to increase another 2 to 11.5°F over the next century. Statistically in 2011, carbon gas was accounted for about 84% out of all U.S. greenhouse gas production from human activities. This burning carbon has overloaded our earth with detrimental effects, including severe storm, drought, massive fires, thawing of the polar caps, earthquakes, global changes in agricultural productivity and disease patterns. Thus, the dependency on fossil fuels to meet energy demands should be minimized.
To solve the rigorous threat to earth from global warming, bio-fuels serve as the most feasible source of energy all over the world. The environmental and economical performance of bio-fuel as compared to fossil fuel was analyzed by full Life Cycle Analyses (LCA) in Spain. The Spanish government CIEMAT, carried out two LCA’s so as to compare ethanol-ethanol mixtures with gasoline, and biodiesel-biodiesel mixtures with fuel oil according to ISO 14040-43 standards, these standards evaluate energy and mass balance for two or more objects.
