Anthony Hill History 21 Paper 2 Blacks ended up joining the military in large numbers getting away from all the
depression and tenant farming or share cropping and we're still segregated from the
The army took in blacks and created a separate black units assigned with usually white
commanders and were treated with less trust and dignity then the white soldiers .There
even been story's that prior to the Pearl Harbor incident , the army use to train black
soldiers combat techniques using sticks instead of them handling m1 rifles like the
whites did .the black soldiers felt that they were getting cheated out of serving and mad
that they are fighting for a country that violated their civil rights .
After the war when the black troops returned home they found that they still lived in a
country that still did not give them all their civil rights but a movement for civil rights had
begun .The biggest problem was segregation ,the law at the time was suppose to be
separate but equal but often times things did not go as planned. white people still had to
find some way to keep the Jim Crow ways alive and treating blacks unworthy of equality

Thurgood Marshall was up against a white lawyer named John w Davis who was also a
presidential candidate .
Mr Davis's argument was that separate was not necessarily unequal and he felt that
black people should be happy with the way things were going .after 3 days of
deliberation the judge stated that separate but equal education had no place in the law
basically ,and that segregation within the school system was over with.Meaning all
school that participated in the separation had to mix ASAP .Meaning from that moment
forward plessy vs ferguson was no more and in a way the era of Jim Crow was over too.
Over the year blacks had to deal with racial discrimination on many different levels.
In 1940 Texas whites did not want blacks to vote with the Democratic Primaries. The
Democratic Party of Texas was a group...
