Boil Boil Toil And Trouble Essay

Broomsticks, spells, hexes, and magick are all the main stereotypes of what Wicca is about. Just look at the way little kids dress up as Witches on Halloween. They are portrayed as ugly, mean, and old women. This is one of the reasons Wicca has a bad reputation. Many may not know this, but Wicca is more than it seems. Many tend to mix them up with Witches because of the Witches' past. Wiccans are not evil and are always trying to do good for the earth. Wiccans have different beliefs and worship a different God than the Christians. The only reason people do not accept Wiccans today is because of their awful past, and because of their past people still view them as Satan's pawn. The Wicca Religion does have different beliefs, but their main purpose is to try to make the earth more peaceful.
Throughout the years, many Wiccans have been compared to Witches. The article “What is Wicca” written by Herne, a true follower of Wicca, states Witches have been associated as being evil, heathen, which is a type of paganism religion, and unrighteous (3). When someone hears the word Wicca, they automatically think of Witchcraft and Satan. It is very easy for a person to believe what they have heard since they were little kids. Seeing the way Witches are portrayed at Halloween, it is easy for someone to misjudge them. They might think Witches support the Devil and because Wicca is a descendant of Witches they must also support the Devil. Wicca is a religion, and sometimes people judge it before they actually know their whole story.
There are many religions out in the world. The most common religion is Christianity, but there are some that go unnoticed because of their beliefs. The article “An Introduction to Wicca” written by the agnostic, – someone who thinks the existence of God cannot be proven at this time – Bruce Robinson explains how Wicca is a religion, and those who practice it are called Wiccans (1). The Wicca religion mainly focuses on: “Feminine as being at least as important as the masculine, the importance of preserving the environment, and positive attitudes towards human sexuality as a gift of the Goddess” (Robinson 1). The author Herne talks about how a Wiccan's main goal is to make the earth peaceful and harmonious: “Wicca is a deep appreciation and awe in watching the sunrise or sunset, the forest in the light of a glowing moon, a meadow enchanted by the first light of day” (Herne 1). Everything a Wiccan does mainly consists of helping the environment: “We also revere the spirits of the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water which combine to manifest all creation” (Herne 2). By using the four elements, Wiccans have a clear view of nature and who they are as a person. The author Raven Grimassi, who is an author of many Wicca books, states that sometimes as a symbol of the four elements, Wiccans wear a pentagram. A pentagram is a five-pointed star that is enclosed in a circle. “The top of the star represents pure spirit and each of the...
