From the end of the Han Dynasty to the early ninth century, Chinese attitudes towards Buddhism changed from positive to negative attitudes. They made people to be happier, made their life better and good, but other people thought that Buddhism took away their main belief “Confucianism”.
At the end of the Han Dynasty, people had a positive attitude towards Buddhism that it was a nearly base religion in China. Zhi Dun; Chinese scholar were writing the document. After the fall of the Han dynasty, they were fighting to become the new emperor of China. Buddhism created political stability within the people. Buddhism made people think that they need to serve the Buddha and practiced commandment which will take them to nirvana later on. People thought when they died their soul was passing away of the Buddha. It was good for people to collaborate, and practiced to serve Buddhism. In addition, a Chinese scholar; “The Disposition of Error;” was writing another document. During the war, Buddhism was a very good religion to believe in. Their teaching contained lots of details. The monk wasn’t prosperity or wealth. They didn’t have even babies to take care. They made goodness for their country replacing the wealth and babies. Once in the war, these monks didn’t waste money at all and went to the next life peacefully. This made the country to be richer in the time of war. These two articles were by scholar so it will be good at that time. Both of these articles were advantages for the Buddhism because it helped gain a lot of prosperity and made people to be as once in war. They fought and then served in Nirvana so Chinese people tried to be in Nirvana to gain their goal to the Buddha.
By the way, some people were mean (average) attitude toward Buddhism that it is mean religion in China. Zong Mi; a leading Buddhist scholar favored by the Tang Emperor writing this document. In 825 C.E., Neo-Confucianism started to spread in China. Neo-Confucianism was begun during 772-841 C.E. in the Tang dynasty. Zong Mi tried to say that Neo-Confucianism was a combined religion that was based on many religions. He thought that religions were not based on time. It based on the lesson because every religion was good. As to the text “They established their teachings according to the demands of the age and the needs of various beings.” He believed that Neo-Confucianism was good even it came late. However, it was based on Buddhism, Laosi, and Confucius. As of these texts, “All three teachings lead to the creation of an orderly society and for this they must be observed with respect.” He respected all the religion and thought that it was good and made the society to be better. This article was both positive and negative attitudes. The positive was they were one of the religions and it was good to have. However, Buddhism was not the popular religion that people want anymore.
