Business Ethics In Workplace Essay

Ethics in the workplace is also known as business ethics. According to Wikipedia, business ethic is defined as the branch of ethics that examines ethical rules and principles within a commercial context; the various moral or ethical problems that can arise in a business setting; and any special duties or obligations that apply to persons who are engaged in commerce. Based on this idea of business ethics, I personally think that ethics in workplace plays an important role because if we don't have any rules or moral so to say, there would be a lot of crimes in our workplace environment and our workplace will be no more save.Here is one of the many examples of ethics in the workplace: on the way to work one morning a person notices a bill (to pay) says a 100 dollar on the floor outside the office of the most disliked manager at work. The thought passes through a person's mind that no one likes him, at the same time thinking that he shouldn't have missed the bill because he makes enough money. As he went picking up the crisp new bill he looked over at the low paid secretary and thought maybe she dropped the bill after cashing her check. Let's question ourselves, if we were in this person's position, would we pick it up and walk away or would we turn it into the proper officials? Or are we going to ask ourselves, who cares? The way of this person handles this situation shows how he uses the process of ethical reasoning and how he applies his values. The way an employee acts, functions or behaves in one company however directly influences the success of the company.Curry (2005) talk about Enron Company that is example about ethics in a workplace:"ENRON were the action of Enron's CEO's a good example of ethics? No. But, what they WERE was a CLASSIC example of two things: One, those actions displayed how ethics were not used in any way. Two, their actions painted a grim and realistic picture of what can happen when ethics are neglected. Had ethics been considered in the first place by the leaders of the company, there would have been no scandal. If ethics were used on a daily basis in every company, there would never be scandals."Ethics in workplace: First of ethics in workplace is the basic from the Random House Dictionary (1999) defines ethics as: "1 A system of moral principles", "2 The rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.", "3 Moral principles, as of an individual". It has been said that having ethics is doing the right or moral thing when no one is looking. Ethics is a personal choice and therefore, how workplace ethics are governed depends upon the personal ethics of those who are in authority over that workplace and also those who work in that environment.Second of ethics in workplace is personal standard.
