What exactly is cancer? About 100 types of cancer affect human beings. Cancer can strike young, middle-aged and old people and it occurs equally among people of both sexes. Cancer can occur anywhere in the body and may spread to other parts. It can occur in most species of animals and many kinds of plants as well.
Cancer firstly begins in the body cells, because all body parts are composed of cells. Each minute, several billion of this cells die and are replaced by new ones. However if this orderly process is disrupted and cells begin to grow out of control they form execs tissue known as a tumor. We know benign tumors, which are not cancer tumors and are not usually life threatening and malignant tumors which are cancer tumors. Benign tumors are not cancer tumors and they are usually not life threatening. Malignant tumors are cancer tumors. With time cancer cells break off and spread through the blood or lymphatic system to form new tumors in other parts of the body. Metastasis is a process where cancer spreads from the original tumor to other parts of the body. Cancer’s ability to spread to other body parts makes the disease extremely difficult to treat unless it is detected early.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF CANCER:
Now I will tell you something about what causes cancer. People develop cancer mainly through repeated or prolonged contact with one or more cancer-causing agents, called carcinogenesis. ……….
CHEMICHALS: Scientist have defined hundreds of chemicals that can cause cancer in animals. These chemicals are also a cancer hazard for human beings if they become widespread in food supply, the general environment, or the living and working environment. In most cases, a chemical carcinogen enters the food supply as a food additive. In discharging waste products, some factories release chemical carcinogens into the environment. These carcinogens may pollute the air or drinking water and so endanger entire communities. Other carcinogens that may occur in a person’s living or working environment include: the tars in tobacco, certain industrial chemicals, certain natural food chemicals and chemicals used in drugs. Cigarette smoking is the principal cause of lung cancer, and cancer of the mouth, kidney, bladder and many more. Research indicates that cigarette smoke can even lead to cancer in nonsmokers who live or work closely with smokers. Some industrial chemicals, such as arsenic, asbestos, nickel, chromium and many more can also can also create a cancer hazard for people who work with them. Some chemicals naturally present in food may become a cancer threat if consumed in large quantities. Medicinal drugs that may cause cancer include artifictial forms of the female hormone called oestrogen. Artificial oestrogens are used in birth control pills and the pills for the female menopause. If taken for more then 8-10 years, the chemicals may cause cancer of the uterus.
