How many of you smoke marijuana? No student would want to admit to such negative decision to their teacher, but why is smoking weed illegal in our society? There are many famous individuals that support marijuana. Al gore one of the biggest influencers on global warming and a previous presidential candidate has many supporters, Little do they know that al gore supports the legalization of marijuana. George Washington one of our inspiring leaders, said, “Make the most of the Indian hemp seed, and sow it everywhere! (Founders quotes)”. Marijuana is a very safe drug, in fact one of the safest on earth which many celebrities we look up to support. Johnny Depp one famous actor said, “I’m not a big pothead or anything like that but weed is much, much less dangerous than alcohol (Founders quotes)”. There are other famous individuals that support marijuana these include Bob Marley and his family, Snoop dogg, Rihanna, Kanye west, Justin Bieber, Michael Phelps, Chris Farley, Al Gore, Andrew Jackson, Barack Obama. A lot of our presidents supported marijuana. I wonder why marijuana is still illegal, when all these famous influential individuals support it. I blame the government for this, some officials feel as if their image would be ruined if the support legalizing marijuana. Solely thinking about themselves and no one else.
There are five major reasons why marijuana shouldn’t be legalized liberty, cost, failure, medical use and religious use. Liberty because we were granted our freedom and we should be able to enjoy our freedom to smoke marijuana. The cost, keeping marijuana illegal is costing much more then legalizing it. Marijuana being illegal is a failure because prohibition doesn't help, fourth reason is for medical use, many use marijuana to deal with pain and etc. and the last reason is for religious use.
The most important reason to why marijuana should be legal is that there is no accurate reason or exact reason to why it’s illegal. Is your reason to make marijuana illegal valid? Individuals deserve the right to make that choice for themselves due to the fact that were capable of making them for ourselves. I believe the government only has the right to make the decision to take away an individual’s right to choose to smoke if the individual is endangering the environment or causing harm to the environment. I believe this shouldn’t apply to the usage of marijuana, because there are other drugs that not only cause harm to individuals but people cause harm to others when their on there drug , such as alcohol and tobacco. The government should not dictate to individuals as to how they should live their lives as long as they’re not harming others, people should be able to make that decision on their own.
The second reason why marijuana should be legal is...
