AbstractA career is a series of engagements by an individual in work assignments spread over time and roughly corresponding with some form of plan or pattern in terms of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes currently required or required after training and education. (E-Book concept)According to general theory, career is a set of occupational experiences and roles that makes up a persons' working life. Career management researchers unanimously agree that career management processes have witnessed considerable changes in recent times. These changes are in direct response to the shifts in the labor market and the social and economic environments in general. The changes in approach to career and in career opportunities are being driven by many factors such as globalization, information technology, life style changes, new organization structures, and the evolving needs of corporations.In this paper, I would like to use Schein's theory of career development to describe the opportunities that are available to employees in today's organizations. So that we can see how individuals are successfully using the strategies suggested by Schein to further their career.Different aspects of career developmentEveryone who works has a career. (E-Book, Model 12)A career, according to Schein (1992), is a set of occupational experiences and rolesthat make up a person's work life (p. 207). Everyone has a career anchor even if manyoccupations means few opportunities for the anchor to be expressed at work. Thus,production workers have career anchors though such anchors may exhibit themselvesmore readily outside work as hobbies and other activities. In general, Schein meansthat all career occupants have to resolve the balance between autonomy and security.According to Schein, the career anchors could be described by the following eightdimensions:1) Security/Stability. You are primarily concerned about jobs and work that will makeyou feel economically secure and stable.2) Autonomy/Independence. You primarily want your working-life to be under yourcontrol.3) Technical and functional competence. You seek higher levels of challenge withinyour area of expertise, and you resist general management because that would require you to drop the exercise of your skill.4) General management competence.
