1. Introduction

1.1 Definition and description

A personal trainer is a trained and qualified professional who helps people achieve their desired level of fitness and their exercise goals by motivating and encouraging them to do so. Personal trainers usually work with individual clients at one time usually 1-5 times per week depending on the client’s needs, each session usually lasts about an hour. When starting with new clients personal trainers start of with a fitness assessment to measure the clients strength and weaknesses as this will help them understand the help they need to accomplish their fitness goals.

2.2 Qualifications Skills & requirements

The qualifications skills and requirements vary between different countries. Although most certifying agencies usually require trainers to be 18 or older as they need the right qualifications such as a cert III or IV in fitness a degree or bachelor in exercise science and are required to have a current CPR or first aid certificate. Personal trainers usually require a high level experience in fitness and to have a healthy lifestyle as this is part of their profession. They also require skills like having a positive attitude towards what their doing to have a motivational personality leadership skill to be safety orientated, patient, communicative and realistic as these skills are what is needed to become a Personal trainer.

2.3 Prospects (job opportunities)

There are many different job opportunities for being a qualified personal trainer. You can be a self employed personal trainer and can sometimes start your own business for personal training and fitness or even be part of a group outdoor personal training franchise or a franchise with a health club. The basic jobs you can get out of personal training are things like being a fitness instructor, personal trainer or exercise therapist.
